Welcome to the sheep page!!

SVP Registered Katahdins
Thank you for your interest in our registered Katahdin lambs!
Our lambs are born in March and April each year and typically ready to go by late summer or early fall. If you'd like to be added to our list for available ewe or ram lambs, just let us know. We offer a beautiful range of colors, but we prioritize top genetics when selecting breeding stock to sell - we don't breed for color but think of color as icing on the cake! All our sheep are registered with Katahdin Hair Sheep International, and most carry RR codon 171 genetics.
We also occasionally offer pairs — a mature ewe with a lamb or two at side. If you’re looking for something specific, feel free to reach out. We just may have exactly what you need.

Registered Katahdin Pricing - here's a general idea of what you can expect (prices may vary depending on the animal)
Mature ewes $600-800
Ewe lambs $500-600
Ram lambs $700
Mature rams $1200+
These prices apply to registered, breeding‑quality sheep. Not every lamb or adult meets our criteria for registration, and those animals are priced accordingly.
We understand that everyone has a budget, and we want buyers to know exactly what goes into the sheep we offer. Over the years, our cull rate has been extremely high. We’ve only kept ewes that could stay healthy on grass alone, raise lambs without assistance, and never required wormer, feed, or injections/vaccinations to survive. Any animal that needed support did not stay in our program.
We began with registered Katahdin lambs that cost us $800–$1,000 each, and we absorbed the difficult and expensive work of culling most of those animals so our buyers don’t have to. The ewes we offer today are the handful that proved they can truly thrive with no inputs, and that level of hardiness saves our buyers significantly in the long run.
We also maintain a disease‑tested flock because we don't want a buyer to face losses years later from something they unknowingly purchased. In addition, we keep our lambs longer than most sellers. We prefer to carry them through June and parasite season to ensure they make the cut. We want to see that they grow well on grass and require no inputs before they ever leave our farm.
This level of selection is also why we usually have a waitlist a year in advance for our sheep.
We share all of this so buyers have the full picture of why our prices are a little higher — and why our sheep tend to perform so well for the farms they go to.
OUR FLOCK SIRES

Magnum
HRS 25-156
A fitting name for a ram of this caliber. Magnum is a large-framed, structurally sound Katahdin with impressive muscle and eye-catching color. He combines power with balance, making him a standout. Despite his commanding presence, Magnum carries a notably gentle nature—easy to handle and calm in demeanor.
His dam, HRS 23-757, is a premier ewe known for consistency and maternal strength. Sired by FFG 1400, Magnum carries forward a high-quality pedigree built for performance and longevity.

Magnum will be sire to many of our upcoming lambs for 2026!

Leonard
RHS 1382
Leonard sired many of our Spring 2024 lambs. Pictured here as a yearling. His easy keeping genetics have been impressive. Despite the drought his first year he continued to grow on meager pasture and has had excellent parasite resistance. His conformation is very correct and his feet are tough. His personality can't be beat. He is the first to come visit us in the field and loves to hang out for scratches and attention!

Mr. Johnson
RHS 164
Mr. Johnson is very gentle natured and certainly passes that on to his lambs. He has excellent grass genetics and thrives on grass only. This is a large framed ram around 285 lbs. He puts size and color on his lambs.

SVP 26 Speckled Love Ram
This yearling ram, sired by Leonard, represents the kind of low-input efficiency we value at Sand Valley. Born and raised right here, SVP 26 was developed entirely on grass and has never required deworming—a testament to his natural resilience and adaptability. With a solid genetic foundation and proven pasture performance, SVP 26 has already sired lambs for us, and we expect his low-maintenance, parasite-resistant traits to carry forward into the next generation 🐑

0 SIX 1 Charlie
A grandson of the renowned Mr. Johnson, Charlie brings practical excellence to the flock. He’s exceptionally parasite resistant, thrives with minimal maintenance, and has a gentle, easygoing temperament that makes him a favorite in the pasture. Charlie’s genetics reflect everything we value—durability, docility, and low-input performance.
